40. Gerry Rafferty - City to City

"Baker Street" has been one of my favourite songs. It is regarded as Gerry Rafferty's signature song.
Rafferty said the legal problems following his acrimonious departure from Stealer's Wheel
(his former band) helped him write "Baker Street" which feature the lyrics:

He's got this dream about buyin' some land
He's gonna give up the booze and the one night stands
And then he'll settle down, there's a quiet little town
And forget about everything.

So there's the Scottish singer-songwriter sitting on a wind-blown cloud in a sunset picking his guitar in a pose that makes its headstock look larger than his own.
I readily noticed those hellish cloud colours and his scarf matching his name (I once had the album myself). Now, it's time for me to tweak the original
album cover art. Because I had to have some fun in order to live. And so I settled in this quite little town gave up the one-night stands but not the
booze, and fulfilled my dream about buying some land. But I still remember everything.

"Whatever's Written in Your Heart" that's all that matters. Gerry Rafftery died on January 4, 2011.

The original album cover art design matters too.

Art design by John Patrick Byrne. Album produced by Hugh Murphy. United Artists 1978.

Gerry Rafferty is a huge talent, but a reluctant star. Management struggles and sundry other hindrances limited his output, but couldn't avert the Scot from releasing two
legendary singles - the Tarantino-ized "Stuck in the Middle With You" and the unforgettable "Baker Street". Just a glimpse of John Patrick Byrne's cool cover art lets
the listener know City to City houses Rafferty's day in the sun as he conquers the world one metropolis at a time, his guitar and amp in tow. Setting out in his
apocalyptic "Ark," each song radiates the confidence of a master craftsman cruising in his prime, constructing brilliant pop confections with top-flight
support while awaiting the crunch of civilization. The dreamy reality check "Baker Street" rightfully remains one of the greatest cuts in pop history.
